T. Teething ^
The average child erupts his first tooth at about 6 months of age and, on an
average, will get a tooth a month thereafter, until he has 20 teeth. Younger I
infants will sometimes appear to be teething. As the teeth move toward the
surface they may cause tingling and some discomfort even though the teeth may
not be ready to erupt.

The old wives tale of teething and diarrhea is achieving medical credibility since
decreased eating and decreased fat intake may account for this observation.
Your child may run a low grade temperature from teething. NOTE:
Temperatures over 101 degrees F are rarely caused by teething and other

causes should be considered.

The discomfort of teething can be made more tolerable with Tylenol, a cold

teething ring, a cold wetwashcloth, and preparations such as Oragel and Numzit

massaged on the gum.

U. Vomiting
Vomiting is defined as the loss of most or all of the stomach contents.
Occasional vomiting is not unusual.

If your child is vomiting he should not be given any solid foods and the following
schedule should be used for giving clear liquids.

      1. After vomiting, no fluid or anything else for 1 hour!

      2. 1 tablespoon of clear liquid-wait 20-30 minutes-if not vomiting then...

      3. Give 1 ounce of clear liquid-wait 20-30 minutes-if no vomiting then...

      4. Give 1 ounce of clear liquids every hour for 4 hours then gradually
increase the amount of clear liquids per hour until your child is able to
tolerate 1/4 to 1/2 cup of clear liquids every hour while awake. If at any
time the vomiting occurs again, return to the beginning and start again
with 1 tablespoon of clear liquid.

This plan should be continued for 24 hours after the last episode of vomiting.

Examples of Clear Liquids:

For children under 1 vear old.-

Electrolyte solutions such as Pedialyte, Infalyte and Kaolectrolyte (may be
flavored with any of the other clear liquids). There are also powdered
rehydration packets that are mixed with water available through some
pharmacies.
