Helpful Hints:
Many infants become fearful of separation from parents. This may be most
noticeable at bedtime. Resist an extensive bedtime routine and allow your infant
to learn to settle him/herself to sleep.
Begin using a cup for drinking all fluids. Your baby should be weaned from the
bottle by 12 months. This will prevent several problems including milk bottle
caries (cavities) of the teeth. This is also a good age to start brushing or
cleaning any teeth. You can use a child's soft toothbrush or a washcloth. Use
only a pea size amount of toothpaste or less.
Shoes are not required for learning to walk, just protection. They should be
flexible in all directions, be wide enough and long enough to allow growth. The
soles should be flexible, and traction should be similar to that of a bare foot.
Sneakers are as good as any other shoe.
Safety Tips: Please read the following sections in this booklet.
