Helpful Hints:
You are probably aware of your child's emerging independence. This is a part of
normal child development and should not be seen as opposition to parents.
Limit setting is important for your child's safety and can be accomplished by
saying "no" firmly and consistently, and by removing or distracting your child
from potential dangers.
Discipline means teaching and giving clear messages your child can

understand. Prohibitions should be few but firm and consistent. With her

growing independence she may persist despite being told "no" and may have to
be physically removed from what she is doing. See Section Vi-C. on
Discipline.
